Dear Shane
I am writing to congratulate you on the launch of your new book, The Murray River : One River, Many Lands.
I am impressed by the time and distance you invested in the production of this book, and your efforts to inspire and educate readers. Your photographs, several of which I saw in The Advertiser recently, are truly beautiful.
On behalf of the people of Adelaide, congratulations once again and I wish you every success for the future.
Yours sincerely
Michael Harbison
I am about one third of the way through this wonderful book. Really one cannot fault it. The printing is just the right size and there are some fabulous pictures.
It is well written/easy to read and perhaps should be in every school library.
Although I never lived on the Murray River, I did until the age of 15, have quite a bit to do with it down at Goolwa, Murray Bridge, Mannum and Milang
I might also add that my father's first job with E.F.Coop Ltd was with the PS Pyap, back in the days when it was used to sell goods along the Murray; so it was great to see a picture of the 'Pyap' at Swan Hill, where I went many years ago.
So congratulations to all concerned for creating this 'masterpiece'.
I have at last had the chance to read and peruse your book. You have some stunning and memorable photos in there and your presentation of the river and it's history is excellent and well set out. For me the book brought back many great memories of growing up in Waikerie with my sister and brothers.
It saddens me now to see the river in the state it is in but at least your book reflects the grand history of the river from thousands of years ago to the present. Hopefully there can be some redemption to it's former glory. I purchased the 4 books to be able to give my siblings a memory of the river that we had such a wonderful childhood growing up along side.
Shane's genuine passion for the river shows through clearly. This beautifully presented book has many of the best photos of the region ever published.
Hi Shane, just wanted to let you know that I have received the book. Shane, it is just brilliant, I love it. Well done. This book will be in my caravan whenever I go to the Murray. I will look at the book then look at the river. What you have captured is just marvelous. Talk soon
Your fantastic book has arrived! We have a daughter of age 16 just arrived to Australia and now going to live in Cobram for 10 month. With this lovely book about the Murray River, the whole Swedish family can get a good picture about the fantastic surroundings she will experience for real and try to tell us about. By help from this amazing book we will be travelling together with her in our minds.
Thanks again!
The book is fantastic. I bought it as a gift for my husband to give his spirits a lift, as we lost thousands of beautiful books in the Bendigo Black Saturday bushfires. It will look great in our new bookshelves and/or coffee table, when our house is eventually rebuilt.
This river has always held a special place in our hearts and the magnificent photographs, stories, maps and new insights in this book have enriched and deepened that place for us.
For a treat we plan to take a holiday next year, following the Murray River, with the book close at hand. This is a very special book, Shane. Thank you
I am absolutely thrilled by the beauty and quality of your photos. The history and detail brings back many memories of the times spent on and around these areas by my family & with my friends. Mostly in SA with a little time in Vic. My father was born in the Riverland - Renmark.
What a treat to have Banjos lyrics included. The Man From Snowy River has been a favourite since early years. The musical quality and expressive emotions of his poetry gather momentum, as the Murray does, and one is carried along from verse to verse, as you read in Banjos 9th verse " And he raced him down the mountain like a torrent down its bed" ... how apt. Symbioses.
Thankyou. I just love it. Today I have gifted it to my Uncle for his 81st birthday.
Congratulations on this beautifully moving book. Well Done.
Dear Shane, the book arrived yesterday and I spent last night going through it WOW!!!!!! What a GREAT publication. Everything about it is appealing and I am amazed at the amount of work and research you have obviously put into it.
One thing stands out - the overall quality of the contents and printing!!! I think it is wonderful that the entire publication is 'local' right down to the printing. It just shows what can be done locally!! The publication is an 'easy' read and I would think that virtually everyone that lives in the towns described in the book would want to purchase a copy.
I congratulate you on a job well done. I must say the layout, graphics, vibrant colours and quality of the printed photos is exceptional, and again, congratulations!! Warmest regards Duncan
Perfect for the lovers of quality photography, design and stories and the Murray River and Mallee. International visitors will love the genuine Australian appeal and authentic nature of this book. Children will also understand the importance of our great river system.
