Wentworth and District Community Bank Great Wentworth Tractor Rally
22 - 24 Jul 2011
Get ready to rumble! – Tractors converge on Wentworth, NSW
The Great Wentworth Tractor Rally is set to rumble again on 23 and 24 July 2011 when an expected 200 tractors will converge on Wentworth to commemorate the role that the humble tractor played in saving the Wentworth township from the flood waters of the Darling and Murray Rivers in 1956.
The Wentworth and District Community Bank Branch – Bendigo Bank is this year’s naming rights sponsor “As a part of the Bank’s community economic development focus we are delighted in the business potential which major events like the Great Wentworth Tractor Rally bring to the Wentworth Shire*, says Daryl Wescombe, Manager, Wentworth and District Community Bank Branch..
The 2011 Rally will include a tractor trek from Wentworth Showgrounds of some 56kms through the rich agricultural districts of Curlwaa, Coomealla and Ellerslie, before trekkers return to Wentworth for a ‘night on the town’ with celebrations at each of Wentworth’s watering holes.
A drive past the Tractor memorial and a main street muster will start the second day of activities which will include tractors visiting a number of Wentworth’s iconic tourist attractions for photo
opportunities and tractor mischief – it is reported some are heading to the Perry Sandhills to play in the characteristic red sand!
A list of supporting events and activities have been planned in Wentworth to keep everyone busy until the tractors return including
• PS Ruby Cruises PS Ruby will offer “steaming hot†day cruises
• Fergie Fashion Swap Meet New and used clothing from various vendors local and away
• Rodney Hobb’s Model Boat Display Miniature models of the well know Paddlesteamers of the Murray and Darling Rivers
• Sweat Box Arts Annual Display of unique art and practical furniture pieces made from dried fruit sweat boxes
‘There will be Plenty at Wenty on the weekend of the Tractor Rally this year†says Jane Brook from the organising committee “so rug up and come and join us!â€
Based on statistical information from the 2006 event, organisers expect in the vicinity of 550 rally entrants/supporters and 3000 spectators to visit the Wentworth Shire for the Rally in 2011.
Rally entrants and those with static tractor displays or those who wish to join the ‘Fergie Fashion Swap’ are asked to contact Cathryn 0427 334291 or email dcdawes@hotmail.com as soon as possible.
