A bit of History - Growing up in the Mallee

Growing up in the Mallee
My family came from Millewa on my mothers side, The Harveys, my father came from Broken Hill the Dalys.
Most of the Harvey side are still living in Mildura and areas.
First home was on 14th street, built with hessian bags stitched together and whitewashed, floors were mud.
we then moved to Ruby Ave, then I then went to the Lake School and lives out on Walnut Ave and 17th Street.
We walked to school each day rain hail or sunshine. There were three class rooms only.
We had a swimming pool and they pumped the water from the lake, can still remember all the leaches.
Our refrigeration was a charcoal cooler on the side veranda. Had a couple of cows and used the old separator for cream.
The old copper boiler for washing and propped up the clothes line.
The were irrigation channels all over the district, Kids wagged school and went after yabbies in them.
I was glad to see that Warners butcher was still there but do miss the old bridge over the Murray.
