LEAD TRACTORS IN THE 2011 WENTWORTH TRACTOR RALLY ANNOUNCED

David Dawes, Chairman Wentworth District Capital Ltd. was on hand outside the Wentworth and District Community Bank Branch in Wentworth to draw the first 71 places in the Wentworth & District Community Bank Branch Great Wentworth Tractor Rally 2011.

The committee organising the Wentworth & District Community Bank Branch Great Wentworth Tractor Rally 2011 is delighted with the number of entries which have been received from outside the region. Current rally entries have topped 188, and with a final call for local entries about to be made, are confident that our target of 200 entries will be reached!

The draw pool included all of the rally ‘early bird’ entries which had been received by the organising Committee by 31 March 2011. Of those 71 entries included in the draw – 60% were from Victoria (57.4% of these are from outside the nearby Mildura, Merbein, Red Cliffs postcodes), 34% were from NSW (29.2 % of these from outside the local NSW postcode region) and 6% were from SA.

With so many entries from outside the district it was not surprising that all 10 of the first places in the 2011 Rally have been draw and allocated to drivers from outside the region, with Lance Mason from Moutajup VIC (North East of Hamilton) having drawn the lead Tractor Position No 1.

Lance will be driving one of his 17 tractors, a Ferguson TEA 20 1955 which is in original condition, with original tyres, and has had only one muffler replaced. Lance reports that he is lucky to be able to bring his Fergie to the Rally as it is his wife’s favourite tractor and she uses it all the time on the home farm!

“While we know that some local tractor enthusiasts will be disappointed at not being out in front of the trek, we all thought the draw would be a fair way to allocate positions in the rally “say Jane Brook from the organising committee. “ The number of entries from outside the district proves the popularity of the event for the Tractor enthusiasts” adds Jane.

The first local owner driver to be drawn was Mr John Whyte, who quickly volunteered to give his 12th position to the Pink Tractor, which will be driven by local ladies to raise money for the Breast Cancer Network. John was delighted when the Pink Tractor was drawn at position 20 and the draw team decided to leave ‘the ladies’ in order of the draw!

Rally organisers are expecting over 2000 spectators to visit Wentworth during the two day event which is held every five years to commemorate the role that the tractor played in saving the township of Wentworth (and many other townships along the Murray River) during the 1956 floods.
