Chaffey Trail Educational Resources for Primary schools
Overview: Educational Resources for Primary School Teachers and Students Development Plan
The Chaffey Trail is the story of how Sunraysia became an irrigated oasis in the midst of an arid land. In exploring aspects of this story, local students are able to explore key historical themes and enhance their learning through excursions to a range of sites. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage students in learning outside the classroom. This manual of resources has been written for Sunraysia Primary School teachers to use with students from Prep to Grade 6.
It contains four units of work, each aligned to VELS and incorporating lesson plans, excursion suggestions, teacher notes, student handouts and source material. All resources may be used and reproduced free of charge. A brief overview is provided in the table on the reverse.
This collection of resources came about through the work of the Chaffey Trail Reference Group. Lynda Robertson, a local history teacher, has developed the resources and these have been added to by LaTrobe University Bachelor of Education students. Some units have already been trialled, with very pleasing feedback. Further information can be obtained by contacting Mildura Rural City’s Chaffey Trail Project Officer, Julie Jewell on (03) 5018 8311 or via email chaffey.trail@mildura.vic.gov.au.
We appreciate curriculum is always being revisited and updated and we welcome any feedback and contributions. It is proposed that this publication will be reproduced bi-annually.
