Mildura's historic self-guided tour, The Chaffey Trail is the first tourist attraction in Australia with an innovative iOS and Android smart phone app that translates site information into Auslan and captions.

Innovative new technology has been employed so Deaf and hearing impaired people can download an application that shows videos of Auslan signers communicating details about the Chaffey Trail.

The Chaffey Trail Reference Group worked in conjunction with Australian Communication Exchange (ACE) to bring the OpenMi Tours technology to the Chaffey Trail. A not-for-profit organisation, ACE has been at the forefront of communication solutions for Deaf, hearing impaired and speech impaired Australians for more than 16 years.

People can access the Smart Auslan application by scanning their iOS and Android smart phone on the Quick Response (QR) code on interpretive signage at each Chaffey Trail site. The QR code can also be accessed at the Mildura Visitor Information Centre.

For Auslan and captioned translation videos, download the OpenMi Tours application from iOS and Android stores on your smartphone. Then scan the below QR codes for the relevant exhibit.

Visitors and locals can also borrow a smart phone form the Mildura Visitor Information Centre, which has been made available specifically for people wanting to experience the Chaffey Trail via OpenMi Tours.

The OpenMi Tours initiative comes less than a month after a new Braille booklet about each of the nine Chaffey Trail sites was launched. The visitor attractions is now more accessible than ever with options for Blind and vision impaired Australians as well as Deaf and hearing impaired people.
